Healing turmeric smoothie

It was when one of my clients, after suffering a concussion, told me he was prescribed turmeric by his doctor to reduce swelling, that I took note of this vibrant orange root.  Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric. It has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant.  It has been used for more than 5,000 years, and to this day it plays an important role in traditional cultures throughout the Eastern world.

So after what feels like two straight weeks of late nights watching post season baseball, go Cubs go, I woke up this morning and decided to get creative with turmeric.  What manifested was not only beautiful to look at but delicious and energizing too.  I hope you enjoy it.

Recipe: Throw all of this in your blender of choice, mix until smooth. 

  • 1 Tablespoon ground turmeric
  • 1 Tablespoon chia seed
  • 1 Tablespoon grass fed collagen powder (optional)
  • 1 Nub fresh ginger
  • 1 Whole carrot
  • 1 Whole orange (peeled and de-seeded)
  • 1 Whole lemon (peeled and de-seeded)
  • Half frozen banana
  • Coconut water (to desired consistency)
